You will be required to use an Accredited service provider or level 2 Electrician when work at your premises is damaged or deemed unsafe or if you require more power for things like 3 phase machinery. On the other hand if a switchboard caught fire a level 2 electrician would be required first to make safe, some people get an A grade electrician to prepare the works and the level 2 electrician just tests and connects. Contestable or Service work, level 2 electrical work is a combination of accreditation and knowledge that a contractor will need in order to connect the consumers such as home owners and buildings to the grid owned by Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy. The energy providers own the network in which level 2 electrical work is connected to. People refer to the network as power poles or power lines, in the end level 2 electrical work is the task to link both consumers and the network in a way which is deemed compliant.

A Level 2 Electrician is a contractor that is authorised to connect the proposed level 2 electrical work. These Electricians in particular are authorised to physically connect consumers to the network themselves. They have requirements that the government has made them oblige by such as public liability.

WHAT IS AN ACCREDITED SERVICE PROVIDER?

Accredited Service Providers also known as ASP’s. Prior to the Electricity Supply Act 1995, network operators were the only ones who had permission to provide this service. This act gave electricity users the option to choose whether they wanted the energy provider’s service or to call an ASP for the Service. Since then ASP’s have relieved the workload on the network for the energy providers.

POINT OF ATTACHMENT BRACKET

Point of attachment or POA brackets are brackets which hold the weight of the service cable line from your home or build to the network pole. A connection is made at the POA and in some cases the bracket must be connected to the neutral service line. POA brackets are available in many different shapes and sizes although they must be approved by the network in order for level 2 electrician to use. Some different types of point of attachments are: Rafter Brackets, fascia brackets , J hooks and I bolts or in special condition Riser brackets.
